Substances are rarely found in its purest form. Basically, they are part of different mixtures. One type of mixture is a solution. Usually, fluids are understood as solutions, but they can be gaseous and even solid. Two main types of mixtures exist: homogeneous, which are called homogeneous, and heterogeneous – heterogeneous. Substances in the composition of a homogeneous mixture are evenly mixed and therefore indistinguishable one from the other. And in a heterogeneous mixture, all ingredients can be identified and relatively easily separated from each other. Sea water – homogeneous mixture. It is impossible to discern water, salt and impurities of other substances in it. But a plate of soup with noodles is a heterogeneous mixture: broth, noodles and other components are visible in it by eye. The most common type of homogeneous mixture is a solution. It is a homogeneous mixture located in one physical condition. Frequent solutions, such as sea water or vinegar, are liquids. But solutions can also be gases or solids. Air is a solution of gases, and bronze is a hard solution. Properties of solutions to obtain a solution, you need to dissolve one or more substances in a different substance. A substance that dissolves is called soluble. The substance in which it dissolves is a solvent. For example, if you put a spoonful of sodium salt in a glass of water, you get a solution. Salt is dissolved in water, so the salt in this case is a soluble substance. Water acts as a solvent. Not all substances dissolve in any other substances. Perhaps you heard the expression “oil does not mix with water”.You can verify this yourself by adding oil to the water. If the substance does not dissolve in the solvent, then it is called insoluble. If the substance dissolves in the solvent, then it is called soluble.
